Message from our MP
“As we journey through life, the ups and downs we experience offer us invaluable lessons that allow us to emerge stronger and wiser. Have faith, believe in oneself and persevere…This has always been my guiding principle in life.”
Dear Residents of Sengkang West,
It has been more than 4 years since I was elected as your Member of Parliament in May 2006. It has been a very hectic but meaningful time for me and I enjoyed every moment serving and getting to know you.
Sengkang West started off as a rustic and quiet suburban estate, with scarcity of facilities and amenities and a less than satisfactory public transport network. Residents often complained to me about the lack of wet market, recreational facilities and poor public transport connectivity. Over the years, many new facilities and amenities have sprung up. These include the Fernvale point, Anchorvale Community Club, Sengkang Sports and Recreation Centre, Sengkang Riverside Park and the Sengkang wet market. The latest addition - the Sengkang Floating Wetland, the only one of this size in Singapore, was also officially opened to the public on 7th November 2010. In addition, after several discussions and working closely with the public transport operator, the LRT service has improved with bi-directional service during peak hours, increasing the frequency of several bus services, as well as the addition of a new bus service plying through Sengkang West.
Sengkang West has changed tremendously over the past 4 years and I am delighted to know that many residents have expressed their satisfaction and gratitude for the transformation so far. My grassroots leaders and I will continue to strive and work towards a better living environment in our estates. However, excellent facilities and interesting programmes are nothing without the participation and support from the residents. I would like to encourage you to participate actively in the activities organized, and if possible, take the bold step to join the grassroots organizations as a volunteer. I am sure you will find it worthwhile getting to network with fellow grassroots leaders, learn how to organize engaging events and most importantly, to help the less fortunate in our community.
Wishing all a happy and blessed 2011.
Warmest regards,
Dr Lam Pin Min
Member of Parliament
